What I’ve Learned From Mentors and Friends

Since launching Real Talk, one of the most rewarding parts of the journey has been hearing the personal stories my guests share. Time and time again, they’ve spoken about the impact of mentors—people who believed in them, guided them, and sometimes pushed them to see what they didn’t yet see in themselves. Their reflections remind me just how important mentors and
friends have been in my own life.

When I look back at my career and personal journey, I know I wouldn’t be where I am without the wisdom of mentors who invested their time and energy in me. Some taught me the nuts and bolts of business, while others reminded me to stay true to myself, even when it wasn’t the easiest path. Mentors don’t always come with formal titles. Sometimes they are friends, colleagues, or even family members who show up with honesty, encouragement, and love.

And then there are the friends who walk beside us. The ones who celebrate our victories and lift us when we stumble. Friendship, to me, is as powerful as mentorship—it’s the steady reminder that no matter how high we climb or how tough the road gets, we are never alone.

If Real Talk has reinforced one lesson, it’s this: success is never a solo act. We all need people who inspire us, challenge us, and believe in us before we believe in ourselves.

So today, I encourage you to pause and think—who have been the mentors and friends that shaped your story? And even more importantly, how can you pay that gift forward to someone who needs it now?

Because in the end, the greatest legacy we leave isn’t just in what we achieve—it’s in the lives we touch along the way.
